Handy Manny

Okay, so this isn't really about Handy Manny, the Disney character. At least I think it's Disney, I could be way wrong. Maybe he's a Nickelodeon character? All we watch is PBS at our house...and with that I've totally gotten off track. Geez...

A while back when we Hubby decided baby girl needed her own room I started looking to spruce up Spencer's room. I had really dropped the ball after he was born and never gave him room that finished touch. So it was time, because his sister could not have all the decorating fun. I looked online for inspiration and came across this cute shelf:

It's from Pottery Barn Kids and I fell in love with it. But I didn't like the price. So I showed it to my FIL and asked if he could recreate it. He told me he could try. Hubby had talked up how much FIL use to work with wood and pointed out things in his childhood home that were made by FIL. I was ecstatic and then promptly forgot about the shelf.

My in-laws came yesterday to help Hubby out with Spencer while I am in the hospital having baby girl. A few minutes after they arrived Hubbs called me outside and I was presented with this:
I was elated and quickly took it to Spencer's room to see if would be just like I imagined it on a certain wall in his room. It was and so Hubby and I set off to paint it so we could get it up. The end product looks like this:

And putting the shelf up his room ended looking like this:

I love, love, love it! And I love that Spencer will tell you it's an airplane and that his Pop-pop made it. So thank you to Pop-pop for a job well done. I've already asked him to make something for baby girls room...might as well strike while the iron is hot.

Our nursery

So yes, the nursery is finally totally complete...except for some shelves and pictures I want to add and the glider that is on the way, but it's done! The clothes are all washed and hung or folded. The crib sits and awaits our precious little one...it has quickly become the favorite room in the house! If the glider arrives before the baby does I imagine Hubby and I will find ourselves sitting in the chair.

I know...you all wants pics and I don't want to disappoint. I wanted to show a nice progression from drab to flab...so here is a link of a bunch of pics of the beautiful new room

So now that everything is done, we sit and wait. Every little pain I hold my breath and wonder if it's begun. So far it hasn't. I wonder if my water will break or if this little boy is as snug as a bug in a rug and doesn't want to show up just yet!

We've got furniture!

The baby's furniture is in...it just has to be driven from NC to GA, so it will still be a little while before we have it and can set it up in his room. Which is good, cause the room still isn't ready, but Hubby is working like a fiend to get a portion of the basement ready, so I can move my office and we can start the nursery. Apparently we love the stress of it all and don't most people work better when they have deadlines breathing down their necks?

So the nursery theme and colors have been just about decided on, oh, who am I kidding, they've been decided on, even if I purposely only got small paint samples. Anywho, after going back and forth between wainscoting, chair rails and the like I decided on doing a border. I love bears and thought I could incorporate that into a little boy's room only to find that none of the borders I found really spoke to me, so then I went looking for our failsafe...airplanes. And we found several cute ones and among the bunch we found one that spoke to us. I did a daring thing and ordered it strictly by the photo online because the price was just really good. So here is the border that will go around the center or possibly a bit lower of the nursery:

We are pairing that with a khaki wall above the border and a navy wall below, add furniture and voila, the nursery is done. I am anxious to see the final product and will surely post before, during and after pictures.

Oh! I also found the cutest finials for the curtain in the nursery:
These just scream little boy and Daddy's little buddy, don't they?

And thanks to some wonderful friends, I was able to purchase this pack and play for our bedroom:

I know the first month is going to be hard and everyone has said I will want the baby as close to me as possible, so I figured this was a good buy. I opted against a bassinet only because they outgrow them so fast. I can use this pack&play as his bassinet while he is newborn and he can use it beyond. I think I had orginally registered for some fancy-schmancy one at BabiesRUs, but realized we didn't need bells and whistles. Sadly the dog's bed was moved to put this in our bedroom beside me. I was worried Prince would retaliate, but he didn't. We moved his dogbed and he went to where it was (still in our bedroom) and crawled in! We are lucky to have such an accommodating dog.

That's all I got for now...21 days and counting!

Fly me to the moon.

As you all know I am having a very hard time deciding on any sort of colors for our baby room. I keep going back and forth and looking for ideas but not finding any. I thought by having a color choice for the furniture locked down, the rest would just come to me, but alas it has not.

But that does not mean that I can't fall in love with accessories for the room or that grandma's cant either! The first decor for the baby's room is these two beautiful pictures:

These are courtesy Granny Kathy. Aren't they pretty? Especially since no matter what color I finally decide on these will go perfectly. I even know exactly where they will go in the room...see, I can make SOME decisions!
