61

61 is the number of days until I get to celebrate my last year in my thirties. I was never one to try and hide my age...well, maybe those few years before I actually turned 21 but for the most part I was always okay with stating my age and not lying about it. I do the yearly kid about being 29 again but that's all.The clock will continue to tick and turn whether I acknowledge it or not. So I go with it.

Do I look my age? I don't know, maybe. Do I feel my age? Most days...yes. While they say kids keep you young, they also age you. A lot. I can't remember the last time I actually got enough sleep. And there are times that my eyes surely have been shut long enough and I still wake up tired. I thought going to the gym would help but all I wanted to do after working out? Eat and sleep...

This is me just a few weeks ago, on a trip we took to Michigan. Normally I am the one taking the pictures and rarely get a shot in the pictures but this one was taken either before or after I tried to wrangle the kids to sit with me. I think it's a nice picture and don't think I look like the big 4-0 is creeping closer. The guy at the makeup counter recently told me my skin was really nice and I don't know if he meant it or was just trying to make sure I bought something. Thank goodness he didn't offer me any anti-aging creams...

I usually look at my birthday and am grateful that God has blessed me and given me another year with my wonderful little family. People make a big deal about Mother's Day or Valentine's...but for me? It's my birthday. Older, wiser and everything in between, I will take it all. Except for the wrinkles...ain't no body got time for that.

  1. You still look great! I believe 40 is the new 30. I refuse to be 40 when the time comes. I make a big deal about each birthday, because each year should be celebrated! Nobody got time for wrinkles or the platinum hairs!

  2. I absolutely agree that 40 is the new 30. I am proud to announce that I am 41 and really love the look on people's faces as they try and process it! We are getting better as we age, fo sho!

  3. You look great Mel! And I like celebrating birthdays.... not as big as Christmas or other holidays because those have deeper meaning but because it is a day to celebrate being alive and well. Its Leo a chance for your nearest and dearest to let you exclusively know that they love and appreciate you. It doesn't have to be big..... just thoughtful. (At least in my book anyway)

  5. You look great! Those kids haven't aged you a bit.

I think birthdays are to be celebrated as they are indeed blessings. Another day or another year is promised to us.

    Have a margarita for me!
