Today Spencer had his 1 year wellness visit and is right on track as far as development. I don't know how other pediatrician's conduct tests for that but ours asks a series of questions and then announces Spencer is normal. I have to admit, we like it. Every parent wants to hear their child is either normal or a genius. I know mine is a genius which is why I let Dr. Sankaran get away with telling us he's normal.
After doing my own research, having Hubby do research and listening/reading to what other families have done, we decided to keep Spencer on schedule with his vaccinations. He was scheduled for and received the MMR vaccine, which is the one at the center of the autism controversy. Am I worried? Sure, I don't think I would be a good mother if I didn't worry. At the end of the day though, I had to do what was right for our family.
They also pricked Spencer's foot to take a few drops of blood to check his iron. He didn't even flinch. And surprisingly his iron levels are good. I say surprisingly cause the child eats like a messy bird. At least I know he is getting some nutrition even if most of his food ends on the floor!
And finally for the numbers, the oh-so-important numbers! Spencer weighs 24 pounds and 12 ounces and is 31 1/2" tall. This places him in the 80 percentile for weight and 90th for height. Or was it the other way around? Either way he is heavier and taller than most his age, so that's cool. Did I mention that his Daddy is taller than most? Thank goodness I won't have a shrimpy kid. Though I guess I could be considered shrimpy...but being Latina makes up for that.
So over all things are progressing nicely and I finally feel I may actually be getting the hang of motherhood. So much so that talk of possibly adding another child to the mix has been discussed. Don't worry, it won't be too soon. But I'm also not getting any younger so it probably will be sooner than I think.
