But I like food!

So after I found out I was pregnant aside from being mystified as to what came next, I was elated to find out my appetite had gone into overdrive. Why? Because if there is one thing I enjoy, it's food. So to me being pregnant meant eat what you want, especially if you get morning sickness and don't know if you will hold anything down.

Guess what? No morning sickness but there were plenty of books that said eat and be merry. Ok, maybe those weren't the exact words but that's what I saw. And so I went with it, even though in the back of my mind I knew that I could only stand to gain 15 to 20 pounds of pregnancy weight. I was jealous reading the weight that others who are in their healthy weight range can gain more...which means they can enjoy more. Boo. So I picked up some healthy snacks, cause I was needing to eat every 2 hours. I'd never had this STARVING sensation before, well at least not like this and definitely not every two hours.

And then we come to this last 4 or 5 days and my appetite has been nill. Nothing is appetizing, nothing makes my mouth water and the thought of eating period sort of makes me ill. I sort of want to cry but then that will probably be me being homornal instead of me actually crying over my loss of appetite.

So I ask, is this normal? Because I can't find a thing in any of the bajillion baby/pregnancy books I have about losing your appetite!

  1. Normal normal normal

With Gert for the first couple months I was craving food left and right (and it SUCKED because we had just moved from California and so everything I was craving was 2000 miles away)... then all of a sudden, NOTHING sounded good... nothing smelled good, nothing looked good... I actually ended up LOOSING 19 pounds over the course of my pregnancy with her....

It WILL most likely get better, but, sadly, it might be a while.

  2. 1. I didn't lose my appetite while pregnant, but the week after my little guy was born I had no appetite at all. Somehow it will all even out.

    2. I nominated you for an award. Stop by my blog to pick it up!

  4. I was only hungry for hamburgers and french fries. Wonder why I gained 56 pounds!? egads. Any other food was totally unappetizing. I never had "morning sickness" but I had heartburn like crazy.

  6. Yup, it's normal. It's part of the nausea/queasiness factor. I was that way with second pregnancy.

And the mindset of eating healthy and putting on minimal pounds works well until you hit around week 32. At that point, you're so uncomfortable and fed up with being pregnant, you're like "screw this, I'm eating and being merry". roflmao. Good times to come...

  7. I ate through my entire pregnancy and then completely lost my appetite for the first month post partum.

Even during the 14 weeks of "morning" sickness, I managed to eat... for some reason the only thing I could stand to eat was pizza and pasta.

And I agree with Patty, the last two months were a total free for all. I think I had a root beer float every night in the name of calcium.

    Did I mention I gained 55 pounds?

You will be fine, everyone is different.

  8. I lost my appetite during pregnancy. I couldn't stand the thought of eating sugar, chocolate, ice cream, fast food, fatty foods...it was very weird. I craved fruit and vegetables. Once I asked my mother-in-law if she could make cabbage soup for dinner! But after I had the baby, the junk food cravings all came rushing back--threefold!
